The Dangers from Outside

I have lost count of the number of times I have heard: "Compared to a dog, a cat is independent, it is autonomous, only the territory counts", "to be happy, a cat must go out", "cats that don't go out, get bored and become aggressive"

These received ideas unfortunately die hard and are false!!

Cats that go outside have a shortened life expectancy. Indeed, indoor cats live on average between 12 and 15 years while cats that go outside have an average longevity of 5 years. The last argument is the cost in the veterinary clinic which is 66% lower for an indoor cat.

So what is the solution? How do you make sure your cat is happy, stimulated and safe? By improving its living environment, of course! And there, it's up to you! Cat tree, wall course, anything that can stimulate its activity.

Contrary to popular thought, no, a cat is not meant to go out freely and roam around your home.

As you will have understood, at Les Géants d'Hyades, we strongly advise against free access to the outside for your cat.
